I grew up in British Columbia, and enjoyed hiking my entire life. In my early 20s I moved from Surrey to the Okanagan and absolutely loved hiking the trails. The first 20 years were pretty good, with only the odd year of wildfire concern. In the later years you could not breathe the air due to wildfire smoke. There were days when the smoke was so thick you could not see across the street. It was affecting my health and the health of my family. So we moved to Vancouver Island. I think I am a climate change refugee. It greatly upsets me that the Okanagan has been damaged so bad from the disasters we created. There needs to be a better way forward.
